Intro to Painting with Acrylics 1 (Ptg 2 - summer 2013, below)

Class Description
Day
1 – Awesome Animals: Students will begin with pencil & graphite drawings of animals. Sketches will be used to explore two painting techniques: a fingerprint method and then using paint brushes making dots to create experiments in “Impressionist” painting. We will learn about French painter Georges Seurat, an Impressionist painter, look at his artwork as learn vocabulary used in art.

Day 2 – Ocean Blue: This week, students will experiment with making textures/effects by using thick paint and scratching, dragging, combing etc with a variety of tools. This exploration will lead to painting a sea life scene. The dried textures/effects will be used to make treasures found in the sea such as fish, shells & plants. Students will draw, cut and paste treasures into scene at the beginning of week 3. We will look at illustratorsof children’s books who use these techniques such Eric Carle and a few others.
 
Day 3
– Natural Wonders: The third week will involve capturing the great outdoors.
We will talk & sketch outside places near home and away. Selecting favorite sketches, students will explore mixing colors and practice painting a solid/blended color technique.
We will look at the art of Arthur Dove and talk about the art term “abstract”.

Day 4 - Magical Me: In our last session students will sketch & paint a self-portrait.
Please bring to class a brief written description of yourself including what you look
like, your character (for example – like to make jokes, silly, friendly, or quiet etc) and
what you enjoy doing. We will look at paintings of Alexei Juwlensky and Frida Kahlo. Experimenting with these artists’ styles students will combine and add their favorite techniques from the session.

 

Practice Painting with Acrylics 2 (Acrylics 1 is not required)

* Grades K-5th, 4 Tuesdays, May 14, 21, 28 & June 4, 4:00-5:30pm
*Grades Elem or MS, Tuesday - Friday, August 6-9, 1:00-3:00pm


Class Description: Close To Me

Week1 – Yummy in My Tummy: Students will learn about Pop Art 
Week2 – My Family: Students will look and learn about German Expressionist painter
Max Beckman
Week3 – My House: This week's German Expressionist painter will be Egon Schiele
Week4 – When I Grow Up: We will look at art of American artist Milton Avery and
review Max Beckman

We will use techniques from the Intro Class. Additional techniques will include: drawing 
with paint then filling in color as well as painting directly with color. We will focus on more than one piece each class. Creativity is about the process going rather than a focus on one finished piece. At the end of each class will be time to explore & continue painting/drawing what the student chooses

Students will learn about art Terms: Pop Art and Expressionism
